Young People

What is a Satellite Club?

A programme funded by Sport England that aims to encourage community sports clubs, groups and physical activity providers to run outposts of their clubs in new community settings. Satellite clubs make it easier for young people to get active by providing regular opportunities that are enjoyable, appealing and convenient. They are more importantly, based our young people’s needs.

So far in Berkshire, GBA have engaged over 2400 new people into 25 sports and activities.

Who do Satellite clubs want to target?

All our satellite clubs must be for young people aged 14-19 that are currently inactive.

They key focuses for GBA are specifically targeted audiences that don’t necessarily receive the same opportunities as others or find it difficult to access opportunities. These are:

  • - Low socio-economic groups

  • - Women and girls

  • - Ethnic minority groups

  • - People living with a disability

What areas do Satellite clubs want to target?

Where possible we aim to deliver our clubs in highlighted areas of deprivation to make sure the population are receiving the same opportunities are those from different areas. Please enquire with us if you would like to know more information on these specific areas.

Who can access Satellite club funding?

GBA provide the link between National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of sport, education establishments, sports clubs, community groups and disability organisations. We also provide funding to help set up satellite clubs. This can include equipment, facility hire and coaching costs.

Anyone can access support to set up a satellite club, you don’t have to be a sports club or be linked with Sports or Physical Activity. If may be that you are a non-sporting organisation that have an inactive population interested in participating in an activity, or a self-employed coach looking to branch out to an area of deprivation.
